THE DIVINE HEROES
KING YAO’S SUCCESSOR
Although the Yellow Emperor is considered to be the original god and ancestor of the Chinese people King Yao often appears in ancient accounts. He was considered to be the first great king because he lived a simple hard working life. His century long reign was full of disasters – droughts, floods starvation and terrible suffering. If the people were starving he blamed himself. His deep concern for his subjects remained constant.
Almost as well loved as Yao was his successor Shun. It was during their two reigns that the flood was conquered. Many improvements were made for the people
